Amber Stulsky of Greenport died following the 8:18 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 3, in a two-vehicle crash on North Road, said the Town of Southold Police.
Amber, who was a backseat passenger was taken to Eastern Long Island Hospital where she died from her injuries, police said.
Her mother, Rachel Smith, 32, of Greenport, was also injured.
When news began to spread of the smiling girl's death, friends decided to start a GoFundMe page to help her parents pay for her burial and to help replace Smith's vehicle.
Since the campaign has gotten underway two days ago, the community has donated more than $11,000.
"There is nothing that can be done to replace the love that we carried for Amber," said the organizer of the GoFundMe effort. "She was genuine, innocent, sweet, intelligent, talented, friendly, outgoing, and artistic.
Our family will never truly recover from this, and even though she's gone, we are all struggling to keep our faith."
As the family and friends gather on the front porch of Amber's childhood home, there are signs of the young girls everywhere, the writer said.
" As we sit here, grieving on the front porch of a childhood home where Amber's drawings in chalk, Rock paintings, and clothing is scattered in abundance, it is frustrating, devastating, and impossible to think of the possibility that we will ever be able to live a normal life without our Amber," they wrote.
Jason, her father, tells stories of how she was his best friend, and how she would help him on the bay going on fishing trips, the campaign says.
Her mom cries in agony wishing that there was something else that she could do, and ultimately is struggling with how she will recover, get back to work, and drive to the grocery store in the coming months without her car and her torn ligaments in her right leg. And without her daughter.
Amber died one day before starting the new school year. Now, instead of getting back together with friends, the family is planning her funeral.
And struggling, and remembering her smile.
